When does “Alt” become “Main”?

At what point does that “alt” become your “main”?

Interesting question I guess, one I find myself in the midst of as I’m typing to a point. Those who know me, or have actually read any amount of my scatter-brained rambling have probably figured out by now that I have 2 primary characters. I’ll actually put up links or something to the Armory at some point, but for now, it’s pretty simple. Both toons are on the Whisperwind (US) server, my hunter is named Galomesh, and my warrior is named Dreymor, if you want to go look them up, knock yourself out, but it’s not terribly relevant to the discussion at hand. I’d like to just sort of explore the logic behind having a “main” and “alts” and where and when one becomes the other, etc. Continue reading

Be a Hunter, not a Huntard

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on September 29, 2009 by Wiredude

We’ve all heard it. We’ve probably all been called it a time or two as well. Huntard, hoontard, whatever. There are a lot of people out there that play hunters, it’s one of the more popular classes in the game. They also have a reputation for being an easy class to play. I’ll be honest, to a certain point, they are. It’s kinda hard to screw up a hunter. I have seen it done, but it’s tough. So why do we have such a reputation for being idiots? Because all to often it’s deserved. The thing is this, it all comes down to the player behind the keyboard. It’s relatively easy to level a hunter, and a player can easily miss things because they just don’t have the need to use them, particularly if they’ve learned the game on their own. I know for me personally, I didn’t bother to use bandages for a long time. The way I had seen it at the time, if I needed to heal, I could just sit down and eat, and to be honest, I still almost never use them when I’m soloing.

I had been raiding for a little while when one of my guild officers came to me and said I really should get my First Aid leveled, that having it at like 87/150 really wasn’t acceptable for raiding. So I went out, farmed out a few low level instances for cloth, and fixxed the problem.

There are just a bunch of things that I discovered leveling my warrior that I just missed when I was leveling my hunter, but regardless, on to the point.

What can you do to be a Hunter, not a Huntard?

Cataclysm, Rebirth, or Abandonment?

Posted in General with tags , on September 15, 2009 by Wiredude

So we got all kinds of info on Cataclysm a little while ago, and a lot of it looks really cool, I’m excited about the Worgen, I’m looking forward to playing a dwarven shammy, and it’ll be fun to see a whole new world. Humans will be able to be hunters, which is something I never understood in the first place. The Path of Titans stuff sounds really neat, and it looks like there will be all kinds of cool, new, wonderful stuff. Oh, and let’s not forget the stat/itemization changes too, big, big changes there.

But… (and isn’t there always one?)

They announced that they’re completely reworking the hunter class.

Any of you that know me, know that my current main raiding toon is a Hunter. I’ve endured my share of jokes, made at least twice my share of noobish mistakes, and generally enjoyed being the goofball Night Elf with the green mohawk. I know Blizz is constantly tweaking things. I know they’re been kinda harsh on DKs lately. They keep twiddling with aspects of most classes. They have to to keep some semblance of balance in the game, and that requires adjustment from time to time. But to my knowledge (I started playing with about a year left in BC) they have NEVER done this before. Continue reading
